Academic Improvement Plan (AIP)

University study can be an exciting yet challenging experience. You can increase your chances of academic success by getting the right advice and assistance.

By completing an Academic Improvement Plan (AIP) you can identify and tailor your support by engaging in the:

  • self-reflection of factors that may be impeding your studies,
  • self-identification of personalised student and study support requirements and development of tailored actions,
  • strategies and behaviours to aid your academic success

You may complete the independently or you’re welcome to seek information and advice from our team of Student Success Advisors. Simply at a time that suits you.

Ready to start your AIP?

We recognise that there are many factors that can impact your studies and we encourage any student to develop an Academic Improvement Plan.

There are some student groups who are required to complete and Academic Improvement Plan. If you are required to complete an AIP, you will be notified via your Umail.

If we have contacted you regarding completing an AIP, it’s because we’ve identified your academic progress is at risk and that you may need additional support with your studies.

Students in the following groups will be required to complete a personalised Academic Improvement Plan (AIP):

  • Students who have been identified as a Non-Genuine Student under the Job-Ready Graduates Package
  • Students who have met the Academic Progress criteria for Stage 2: Assisted Student
  • Students who have had an approved Show Cause and have returned to an Academic Progress status of Stage 2: Assisted Student

If you have received an email regarding one or more of the above categories, you are only required to complete one Academic Improvement Plan.

You may access and submit your AIP via your Student Centre > Academic Progress tile; or via the .

You will need to:

  • Reflect on your studies and identify any barriers that have impacted on your studies
  • Outline how these barriers have impacted your ability to successfully complete your studies
  • If enrolled, assess your current studies

  • Stage 2: Assisted Student - if you progress to Stage 3, evidence that you have developed and AIP and engaged in the set goals and actions will be taken into consideration
  • Approved Show Cause and have returned to an Academic Progress status of Stage 2: Assisted Student - if you progress to Stage 3 for a subsequent time, evidence that you have developed and AIP and engaged in the set goals and actions will be taken into consideration

You should review your AIP:

  • Each time your Academic Progress Stage changes
  • Prior to each enrolled study period
  • If your circumstances change during a study period
  • If you change your program or are readmitted after an exclusion period

This is to ensure your study strategies are up to date and relevant to your current circumstances.

If you review your AIP and you feel the information is still current, you may keep your AIP as is. If anything on your AIP is no longer current, you should complete a new AIP to update the information.

You can access your AIPs or the link to complete a new AIP via your Student Centre > Academic Progress tile.
