Overview
Translating and applying theoretical knowledge into practice allows students to experience public health in practice and apply their knowledge in real world settings. This course aligns with the CAPHIA area of practice, ‘evidenced-based professional population health practice’, and the related competencies. Public health graduates are required to demonstrate competence in applying knowledge and skills and working in an interdisciplinary setting. The course facilitates the consolidation of theoretical learning into practice. The professional placement hours are undertaken over two (2) courses during the program of study.
This course builds on the knowledge and skills gained in preliminary learning in order to apply it in a public health setting. Upon completion of this course, students should have applied critical thinking and decision-making knowledge and skills in public health program/s. The aim of this course is for students to consolidate their knowledge, apply it in a real world setting and gain `hands on' experience required of public health practitioners. The placement will generally be completed by working on a public health-related project under the guidance of a supervisor. By the end of the placement, students should be able to integrate, synthesise and apply the knowledge from the four core courses to a real-world public health scenario.
