Overview
This course provides students with their first opportunity to work with an ambulance paramedic service. This course gives the student an opportunity to utilise their theoretical knowledge and practical skills learned during the first year of the degree. Students will undertake four weeks full-time practical experience with the Queensland Ambulance Service or other placement provider.
This course is a competency-based course, and all assessment items must be successfully completed to pass the course. These competency items form part of the UniSQ accreditation agreement with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
This course includes a mandatory on campus post-placement residential school. This residential school will be held after the completion of the clinical placement block and non-attendance will mean the student cannot pass the course.
This course will introduce students to an experience with an emergency ambulance service. During the four weeks the student will be able to participate in the assessment and management of patients under the supervision of a qualified paramedic. Throughout this practical placement, students will be expected to participate actively and professionally in the operational environment. Students can only perform skills, procedures and tasks commensurate with their scope of practice and for which specific authorisation has been received.
