Overview
This course requires students to design, conduct and report a significant research project to be assessed by external examiners as warranting the award of the Doctor of Education qualification. It requires students to demonstrate the capacity to integrate empirical, methodological and theoretical knowledge at an advanced level, in ways that relate to and contribute to current professional knowledge and practices in contemporary educational settings.
Full-time candidates should enrol in this course for each semester of the dissertation/folio component of the Doctor of Education program. This will normally be for a total of 18 units (16 units of enrolment in EDR9001 and 2 units in EDR9000). If two electives are included in the program pathway, students will normally enrol for 16 units. It is expected that the following elements will normally be completed by students working in close consultation with their supervisors: For students preparing a DISSERTATION - Writing and presenting a confirmation proposal; If appropriate, conducting a pilot or small-scale study; Collecting and analysing data; Writing successive versions of the chapters constituting the dissertation. For students preparing a FOLIO - Writing and presenting a confirmation proposal; Conducting and writing a formal research report; Writing an analytical thematic statement; Completing one or two other components as required for the folio.
