Overview

Through a major community-based project this course explores at an advanced level the intersections between design, contemporary media and information technology practices. Through this course students will engage with internal/external clients and develop a concept brief relating to a major interactive media-based project, gaining key employment skills and experiences . The course explores design research and practice within social and economic contexts; including the ethical, cultural, and environmental impacts of design decisions, intellectual property considerations, and aspects of appropriate professional conduct. The course will focus on tools and skill sets that are particularly important for succeeding in a design project, including planning, teamwork, project management, and design reporting. Visual communication continues to be a vibrant and rapidly growing field of design. New design opportunities and career pathways continue to emerge and an understanding of future industry directions – and to actively engage and adapt to these – is essential in forging a long-term career. This course provides students with the opportunity to explore emerging areas of digital interactive communication through practice-based research, creative focus and through providing a dynamic community of learning.

In this capstone course you will engage with issues related to international professional practice for digital media content design. You will explore the structure and workflows employed by digital media developers and design organisations. This includes ways to assemble and manage project teams, organise resources, work with clients, and assess risk and creative possibilities within design briefs. Students will complete a series of authentic assessment tasks based on contemporary digital design and media industry practices, and media projects linked to real-world industry training and experiences. This course will assist you in the preparation of a portfolio with digital media strategies, for promoting your services in your chosen area of specialisation.
