Overview
Postgraduate students working in the aviation sector need to be able to conduct effective research across a wide variety of subject areas. They must be able to conduct ethical, effective and rigorous research which fills gaps in current knowledge on a given topic. To achieve this, students will need effective research skills which enable them to review existing knowledge on a topic, to identify gaps in that knowledge, and to develop studies which increase the topic knowledge where those gaps are identified. The project (comprising AVN8104 Aviation Research Project (part A), immediately followed by AVN8105 Aviation Research Project (part B) is intended to integrate, augment and synthesise the knowledge and skills, developed in earlier courses of the program, into an approved research topic focused on key aspects in the aviation industry.
This course (being the second half of the project) provides students with a significant opportunity for research on an aviation topic, usually related to their work environment, to apply and/or extend knowledge developed in their program of study. Students are assisted by one or more supervisors with an appropriate background in the area of endeavour. The course requires students to continue the supervised research from AVN8104 using appropriate research methods and present results in a research project. The research project will involve the writing of a research paper of up to 15,000 words which includes study findings and conclusion. The course will operate on the basis of frequent individual consultation and feedback between the student and supervisor(s).
