Overview

This course will enable students to develop their academic English reading and writing skills to an intermediate level prior to entering the UniPrep program. It will improve student knowledge of English grammar, sentence structure and paragraph structure within an academic context. It will also enable students to develop their reading comprehension of intermediate academic texts and understand how to use these texts in writing. As a result, students will have the pre-requisite reading and writing skills to enter UniPrep.

This course will address academic reading and writing skills at an intermediate and introductory academic level. Students will learn how to write straightforward connected texts on a range of familiar subjects, by linking a series of shorter discrete elements into a linear sequence. Students will also learn how to read straightforward factual texts on subjects related to their field and interest with a satisfactory level of comprehension. Classes will be held within partner schools or online and will utilise peer learning and workshop-style classes.

By the completion of this course, students will:

  2. Have developed the ability to comprehend straightforward academic texts
  3. Have developed their academic writing skills to an intermediate level, suitable for introductory academic courses
