Dr John McVeigh installed as fifth Chancellor of UniSQ

The 黄片看片神器 (UniSQ) has celebrated the official installation of the Hon Dr John McVeigh as its new Chancellor, marking a significant milestone in the University’s history.

The Governor of Queensland, Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, officially installed Dr McVeigh as Chancellor of UniSQ at a ceremony on Monday (2 December 2024) in the Arts Theatre at the Toowoomba campus.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Assistant Education Minister Anthony Chisolm, Federal Member for Groom Garth Hamilton, Member for Condamine and Speaker of the Queensland Legislative Assembly Pat Weir, Member for Southern Downs James Lister, Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Geoff McDonald, Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor Tanya Milligan, Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Andrew Smith, and ACU Chancellor Martin Daubney AM KC.

Dr McVeigh, a distinguished former State and Federal Minister and academic, expressed his excitement about taking on the role and shaping the University’s future.

“UniSQ is a university deeply embedded in its communities, with a proud history of driving innovation, opportunity, and growth,” he said.

“As an alumnus of UniSQ, I am honoured to serve as Chancellor and look forward to working with our exceptional staff, students, and stakeholders.

“There are challenges to face but plenty of opportunities as well.”

Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Karen Nelson acknowledged the wealth of experience Dr McVeigh brings to the role.

“As we navigate the complex higher education policy landscape, Dr McVeigh’s leadership, political experience and strategic insight will be a great asset for our University,” she said.

“His perspective will be particularly valuable during a time of significant change as we develop a more sustainable university and begin to reshape the strategic direction of UniSQ.

“Under his guidance, UniSQ will continue to thrive as a leader in teaching, research, and engagement. I am very much looking forward to working with him as we transform our university.”

Chancellor McVeigh and Professor Nelson acknowledged the leadership of Mr Dornbusch, who served as Chancellor for over a decade and dedicated more than 25 years of service to the University.
